RPMS Portfolio and MOVs: How to Organize Evidence That Rates Well
A strong RPMS portfolio maps one clearly labeled set of means of verification to each objective, with brief annotations explaining how each document meets the success indicators. Collect evidence continuously, curate ruthlessly, and organize by objective — not by month.
What actually counts as an MOV
Each objective's tool specifies acceptable evidence — typically lesson plans, classroom observation tool results, learner outputs with reflections, assessment records, certificates, and documentation of stakeholder engagement. Read the MOV list per objective in the current cycle's tools before collecting; wrong-type evidence earns nothing.
The collect-then-curate system
- Capture weekly — one folder (physical or digital) per objective; drop candidates in as they happen.
- Curate quarterly — keep the strongest two or three pieces per objective; discard duplicates.
- Annotate — a two-sentence note per MOV: what it is, which indicator it demonstrates.
- Assemble once — before review season, the portfolio is already 90% built.
Presentation that respects your rater's time
Table of contents, tabs per objective, MOVs in the order objectives appear, annotations visible. Raters reviewing dozens of portfolios reward navigability — a great MOV they cannot find is a missing MOV.
Quality over kilograms
A portfolio is not rated by weight. Three annotated, indicator-matched documents outperform thirty unlabeled photocopies. Cross-check your selections against the rubric using our self-assessment method before finalizing — and keep digital backups of everything.
Frequently asked questions
Are digital portfolios accepted?
Many schools accept or prefer digital portfolios; confirm your school's format requirements for the current cycle.
How many MOVs per objective?
Follow the current tools' requirements; where a range is allowed, a few strong, well-annotated pieces beat many weak ones.
Can one document serve two objectives?
If it genuinely demonstrates both indicators, reference it in both sections with annotations specific to each objective.
